Belabored is more like it. Fraser and Hurley try hard in this comedy about a nerdy guy who sells his soul to a sexy devil in exchange for seven wishes. But Ramis’s direction is heavy on pointless and overly busy special effects, while the screenplay (by Ramis, Larry Gelbart, and Peter Tolan) is sorely lacking in laughs. Rent the charming Dudley Moore–Peter Cook 1967 original instead—and hope that Fraser soon finds a project worthy of his protean talents.
