USS Iowa investigative story Death at sea (4/23/90)
In 1990, U.S. News voiced skepticism about the Navy's investigation of the USS Iowa explosion, which blamed the tragedy on fatally injured Gunner's Mate Clayton Hartwig. The Navy later officially retracted its homicide theory and apologized to the Hartwig family.
