  • Donahoe: Redskins (5-2) at Jaguars (2-5)
    Sunday, October 22
The Redskins have won four in a row behind tough defense and a stout running game with Stephen Davis. Davis is No. 2 in the NFL with 688 yards and a 4.1 average with six touchdowns. Ray Rhodes' defense only gave up 199 yards total offense to Baltimore. Offensively, Washington has played close to the vest with injuries to the offensive linemen and wide receivers. May be forced to rest guard Keith Sims, who has been playing on a sore achilles. Cannot afford another major injury on the offensive side of the ball. Jacksonville has hit the skids after a 14-2 record last year. Team makes too many mistakes and has not protected quarterback Mark Brunell. In spite of its offensive woes, still hase the No. 1 and 2 receivers in the league in terms of production with Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith. The Jaguars have lost four in a row and been outscored 109-50 in that stretch. At home over its history, Jacksonville is 30-6.

    NEWS AND NOTES
  • The NFL fined the Redskins $20,000 for breaking league crowd-noise control rules by using their public address system for cheerleading – a rules violation – during the team's victory over Tampa Bay on Oct. 1. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday that league officials imposed the fine on Oct. 9. The NFL is also investigating whether the Redskins committed a similar violation during last week's game against Baltimore. Washington has 20 days to appeal the fine, and a team source told the The Washington Post they would do so, arguing they didn't use their PA system differently than other NFL teams have.
  • The Redskins officially deactivated LG Keith Sims (Achilles) and WR Irving Fryar (neck) for Sunday against the Jaguars. Andy Heck draws Sims' starting job, ESPN.com's John Clayton reported.
  • DE Bruce Smith was given the day off on Wednesday to rest a groin injury suffered a week ago during practice, reports The Washington Post. He says that he will play Sunday.
