 Baseball Tonight analyst

Mike Macfarlane, who retired from Major League Baseball in 1999 following a 12-year career, joined ESPN as a baseball analyst for the 2000 season. He will provide game analysis and will appear on Baseball Tonight.

Macfarlane, a catcher, was drafted by Kansas City in 1985 and played most of his career with the Royals, first appearing in several games in 1987. He then played seven years before moving to the Boston Red Sox as a free agent for the 1995 season. He returned to Kansas City for two years (1996 and '97) and finished his career playing two years with Oakland.

His best two seasons were 1993 - 20 home runs, 67 RBIs and a .273 average - and 1996 - 19 home runs, 54 RBI and a .274 average, both for Kansas City. For his career, Macfarlane hit 129 home runs with a .252 average. He appeared in the 1995 postseason with Boston.

Macfarlane was born April 12, 1964 in Stockton, Calif.
