 ESPN2 Friday Night Fights commentator

Bob Papa is ringside blow-by-blow commentator for ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, which premiered October 3, 1998. Papa joined ESPN in August 1994 as blow-by-blow commentator for ESPN Top Rank Boxing, television's longest-running weekly boxing series. Papa made his ESPN Top Rank Boxing debut Friday, Aug. 26 on a WBC featherweight championship fight in Atlantic City where Tracy Harris Patterson lost his title to Hector Acero-Sanchez.

Papa's boxing experience includes play-by-play commentary for the discontinued SportsChannel Pro Boxing Tour, for NBC Sports' Triplecast of the 1996 Summer Olympics, and for pay-per-view events for Belmont Productions.

Papa, recipient of the 1992 New York State Associated Press Sportscaster of the Year Award, is a protege of legendary broadcaster Marty Glickman who greatly influenced him upon arriving at New York City's WNEW-AM in 1987 -- his first job.

Prior to joining ESPN, Papa was the NHL studio host and commentator for boxing, track & field, and Notre Dame basketball for SportsChannel America (1989-92), sports anchor of the WNEW-FM Rock and Roll Morning Show (1992-93), and play-by-play commentator for the New York Knights of the World League of American Football (1991).

He is the play-by-play voice of the NFL's New York Giants.

Papa, born Sept. 19, 1964, is a native of The Bronx, N.Y., is married with two sons.
