    Answers
  • WHY DO I GET AN ERROR NOW WHEN I TRY TO LISTEN TO A LIVE RADIO/TV BROADCAST?
ESPN.com recently improved the quality of its Live Radio/TV by upgrading to a new version. In order to listen you will need the latest version of the RealPlayer which is found at the RealNetworks site.

  • WHY WHEN I CLICK ON A LIVE RADIO/TV LINK DO I GET AN 'UNKNOWN FILE TYPE DIALOG?
It usually means that you don't have the RealPlayer loaded on your computer or it's not a recent enough version of the player. We recommend using the latest version of the RealPlayer which can be downloaded at the RealNetworks site. Note: The RealPlayer is free while the RealPlayer Plus has a charge associated with it.

  • WHY AM I RECEIVING AN OLD BROADCAST?
Your browser has probably cached the Live Radio/TV Page. Before clicking on the link to the broadcast go to the options menu, select network preferences, click the "clear memory cache now" and "clear disk cache now" buttons. Then click OK. You now need to reload the page and then click on the link to the broadcast.

  • THE SIGNAL SOUNDS GOOD FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES BUT THEN STARTS TO BREAK UP. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Like a telephone line, it's possible to get a bad connection or a connection that deteriorates in quality. If you experience this, just stop and restart your RealPlayer until you receive a better connection.

  • WHEN I CLICK ON A LIVE RADIO/TV LINK THE REALPLAYER COMES UP BUT I DON'T HEAR ANYTHING. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
There could be a couple of reasons for this:

  • The broadcast you are listening to could be in the middle of a commercial break. The radio stations leave dead air open for the local stations to place their own ads but since we don't have advertisements it remains dead air. These commercial breaks can last up to five minutes.
  • Your computer may be behind a firewall. For more information on firewalls go to the RealServer FAQ on Firewalls. If this is the case, you can follow the instructions on that page to make the necessary changes.

  • WHY AM I RECEIVING A BAD FEED USING REALPLAYER 4.0?
This is a known bug in the 4.0.8.9 beta version of RealPlayer. You can check your version of the RealPlayer by clicking on the "Help" menu and selecting "About".

    You have two options:

    Option A:
    1. When the game feed comes up bad, select the stop button.
    2. Under the "View" Menu select "Preferences."
    3. Select the "Transport" Tab.
    4. From this page click on the radio button that says "Use specified Transports."
    5. Next, click on the button "Specify Transports."
    6. De-select the bottom radio button, "Attempt to use TCP for all content."
    7. Click "OK."
    8. Click "OK" on the "Transport" page.
    9. Finally, click on the play button of the player.

    Option B:
    1. Go to the RealNetworks site and download the latest player.

  • I STILL CAN'T GET LIVERADIO/TV TO WORK. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If you still continue to have problems see the official RealNetworks Technical Support FAQ for help and more information.
