Surpassing expectations
| | Garcia is putting up Pro Bowl numbers. |
This season, unheralded Jeff Garcia is trying to make 49ers fans forget about Joe Montana and Steve Young. The amazing thing is that Garcia might actually be pulling it off. Garcia is directing an offense that ranks third in the NFL in yards and fourth in points scored per game. The unit is the most balanced in the league behind St. Louis, ranking eighth in rushing and third in passing. The 49ers haven't scored fewer than 22 points in any game this season and are averaging 28.3 points per contest. Garcia ranks second to Kurt Warner in the NFL with a 107.9 passer rating and leads the league with 19 touchdown passes, two more than Warner. And he's getting better.
