RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring Quick Facts Facts | Schedule | Drivers | Results | Standings | News The Series: The RE/MAX Challenge Series was formed in 1998 from the former ARTGO Challenge Series, established in 1975. The RE/MAX Challenge Series has developed a reputation for high car counts and close racing throughout the upper Midwest. The RE/MAX Challenge Series has competed as a companion event to the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Winston West Series on several occasions. In just two seasons the series has had two close championship battles between veteran Steve Carlson, who won the title in 1998 and Brian Hoppe, who captured the 1999 crown. The series is one of four NASCAR regional touring series, along with the Slim Jim All Pro Series, Featherlite Southwest Series and Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series; that features Late Model cars under one blanket of rules that allows them to compete on a regional basis as well as at national events that highlight each of the four series.
The Cars: RE/MAX Challenge Series races are open to eligible 1997 through 2000 models of American-made production passenger sedans. Approved car models include the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus and Thunderbird, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Pontiac Grand Prix. RE/MAX Challenge Series cars are slightly smaller versions of those seen in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. While a NASCAR Winston Cup Series car weighs 3,400 pounds and has a wheelbase of 110 inches, a RE/MAX Challenge Series car must weigh a minimum of 2,900 pounds and have a wheelbase of between 101 and 105 inches.
