Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Quick Facts

Facts | Schedule | Drivers | Results | Standings | News

The Series:

A contingent of four-cylinder stock car drivers met in North Wilkesboro, N.C., in 1975 and discussed the formation of a touring series for their unique compact race cars. The series was originally dubbed the "Baby Grands" for their resemblance to the NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Division (now the NASCAR Winston Cup Series). The Goody's Dash Series experienced its greatest milestone since that first meeting when in 1992, Goody's Pharmaceuticals took over the title sponsorship and gave it the name by which it has flourished and is known today. The Goody's Dash Series is the only regional touring series that races at Daytona International Speedway, with its season opener during the annual Speedweeks festival in February. The NASCAR 2000 racing season marks the 25th anniversary of the Goody's Dash Series. That is 26 consecutive years of developing the racing talents of the future stars of NASCAR, providing exciting grassroots motorsports and maintaining exceptional sponsorship opportunities.

The Cars:

A Goody's Dash Series race car is essentially a scaled down version of a NASCAR Winston Cup Series car. The NASCAR Winston Cup Series car utilizes a V-8 engine ranging from 350 to 358 cubic inches with a maximum compression ratio of 12:1. However, the Goody's Dash Series competitor has the option of running either a 168 cubic inch, 13:1 compression four-cylinder engine or a 268 cubic inch, 9:1 compression V-6 engine. A Goody's Dash Series car must weigh 2,650 pounds for the four-cylinder version or 2,750 pounds for the six-cylinder version with a wheelbase of 100 inches. Approved models for use in the Goody's Dash Series are the 1996-2000 Chevrolet Cavalier, the 1996-2000 Dodge Avenger, the 1998-2000 Ford Escort ZX2, the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, the 1996-2000 Pontiac Sunfire, the 1998 Toyota Celica and the 1999-2000 Mercury Cougar.
