Featherlite Modified Series, NASCAR Touring Quick Facts Facts | Schedule | Drivers | Results | Standings | News The Series: Operating as the oldest division of race cars in the history of NASCAR, the Featherlite Modified Series is the only open-wheeled series in the NASCAR Touring Division. After Modified race cars became the feature attraction at many race tracks throughout the Northeast, NASCAR established the current touring format in 1985. The Featherlite Modified Series not only offers a unique race car, but an exhilarating race experience. In 1999 Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., clinched his third series crown. NASCAR 2000 will see Hirschman facing strong competition from a host of talented veterans and hungry newcomers.
The Cars: Featherlite Modified Series races are open to eligible 1983-2000 American-made, steel-bodied production passenger sedans. Low-slung and fender free, cars must maintain a minimum wheelbase of 107 inches and a weight of 2,610 pounds. The average engine displacement is 364 cubic inches and the compression ratio is limited to 12:1.
