Q&A;: Jeff Green

Oct. 17, 2000
In this installment of Jeff Green's Title Chase, NASCAR Online sits down for a Q&A; with the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division's points leader.

NASCAR ONLINE: What's been your biggest challenge in racing?

JEFF GREEN: The travel schedule and being away from home so much.

NOL: Since most brothers are notorious for ribbing each other, it's probably safe to assume the Greens have given one another a hard time on more than one occasion. Would winning a NASCAR Busch Series title give you and David, a past champion, more ammunition to use in ganging up on Mark, or will the two of them merely gang up on you that much more?

JG: My brothers and I never were really big into ribbing each other regarding racing. We've always been really supportive and helpful where our racing careers were concerned. However, when we were growing up, both Mark and David played basketball in high school and I was in the band, so they both ribbed me a lot about that.

NOL: Since you're already set to return to the NASCAR Busch Series with ppc Racing next year, are there any areas you can target for improvement, or is it just a matter of staying the course?

JG: I think there are still many areas where we can improve. We'll look back at the races we didn't run well, like Atlanta and Michigan, and try to improve on those areas.

NOL: What people have been the most helpful to you along the way in your career?

JG: Mostly, I'd say Michael Waltrip. He was really instrumental in getting me to move to Charlotte and gave me a job working with his race team, which introduced me to many people that work in this industry.

NOL: Will your paint scheme remain the same for 2001? Will the bunny stay on the hood?

JG: The paint scheme will remain pretty much the same for next year. The bunny will still be on the hood. The only major change is NesQuik is changing their logo for 2001. They are changing the big "Q" to a small "q," so it will now read: Nesquik.

NOL: What's the one thing you can never take for granted on the track?

JG: That today is going to be your day. You have no control over what your fellow competitors are going to do, and no matter how good your car is, if it is not your day, it is not your day.

NOL: Looking not too far down the road, how will your life change by becoming a NASCAR Busch Series champion?

JG: I really don't think it will change all that much. I'll probably just be a little busier than I am now.
