Recent bridegroom Wall, of Plaistow, N.H., led the event twice for 51 of the 82 laps after winning the Bud Pole on Friday. It was his first victory of the NASCAR 2000 season and the fourth of his Busch North Series career.

Dale Quarterley was the runner-up, three seconds behind Wall, with Mike Olsen, Andy Santerre and Ted Christopher completing the top-5. Busch North Series champion Brad Leighton was sixth and established series records by finishing every lap run all season and finishing every race in the top-10.

Raybestos Rookie of the Year, and of the race Mike Johnson was seventh, while Dale Shaw put on a closing charge to take eighth. Combined with a 14th place finish for Tracy Gordon, it was enough to move Shaw into second in the final Busch North standings. Dave Dion and Dennis Demers rounded out the top-10.

Quarterley started outside the front row and beat Wall into Turn 1, setting the pace for the first 17 laps before pitting, with Wall following him to pit lane for fuel four laps later. Leighton enjoyed a 14-lap run at the head of the field, but spun as his transmission locked in fourth gear. Wall regained the lead at lap 35 and never relinquished it.

Olsen gained several positions on a 41st lap restart to move into contention, grabbing second from Quarterley two laps later. Quarterley retook the spot on the 51st circuit and the best race the rest of the way saw Olsen and Santerre dispute third, with Olsen finally prevailing on lap 63.

Needing to finish two positions in front of Gordon to move up to second in the final standings, Shaw seemed to see his chances dashed when he spun on lap 57. He rallied to pass Gordon with less than 10 laps to go. Gordon's flat tire in the closing stages settled the issue. Also suffering a cruel fate was Bill Penfold, who lost a top-10 finish with a broken transmission.

Wall averaged 70.046 mph as six caution periods slowed the action for 29 laps. Wall broke his own track record in taking the Bud Pole at 102.377 mph and also won the Gatorade Front Runner Award. Mike Bruno's 20-place improvement from 31st at the start to eleventh at the checker gained him the Flowmaster Star of the Race Award.
