Curbishley puts case for Rufus

Alan Curbishley believes Charlton defender Richard Rufus has been overlooked by England coach Kevin Keegan because he plays for an unfashionable club.

The Charlton manager, whose side take on Coventry on Saturday, reckons Rufus should have been in the England squad for the World Cup ties against Germany and Finland but he was ignored in favour of Liverpool's Jamie Carragher.

Curbishley said: 'Perhaps at our club we don't talk our players up enough but Richard has been consistent for the past two seasons. If Kevin Keegan has had our games watched he will have received nothing but glowing reports about him.'
