History:
Cinergy Field (once known as Riverfront Stadium) is located on the north bank of the Ohio River. Two weeks after opening on June 30, 1970, the stadium was the site for the All-Star game. Since then, it has played host to five World Series. Riverfront was renamed Cinergy Field on Sept. 9, 1996. Significant changes were made to the field after the 2000 season. The artificial turf surface was replaced by 100,000 square feet of bluegrass sod and approximately 15,000 outfield seats were removed to make room for the construction of the Reds' new home (Great American Ballpark) which opens in 2003.
