The Closer: Wait till next year
| | | Ken Griffey Jr.'s homecoming season did not bring a playoff berth. |
Poor Reds fans. Not only is their team a no-show for the playoffs,
they have to endure taunts from Mariners fans on ESPN message boards. Seems this unending sack dance has been going on since May. These emails from the Pacific Northwest are full of praises for Mike Cameron and Brett Tomko and aim darts at Ken Griffey Jr. When will it end?
ESPN.com's Marty Bernoski examines the Reds season with The Closer.
Oester joins list of candidates
Ron Oester interviewed for the manager's job Tuesday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. The team's third base coach told the paper that the 3 1/2 hour interview went well. The Reds are said to be considering 10-12 candidates. One possibility is reported to be Mets manager Bobby Valentine.
Few tears these days in Seattle
For a decade, Ken Griffey Jr. was as much a Seattle icon as the Space Needle, Pike Place Market or Bill Gates' wallet. Instead, the Reds never gave the Cardinals a chase, their pennant race stalling like a bad Jack McKeon joke.

Plans revamped for new ballpark
Some of the money Hamilton County planned to use for demolishing Cinergy Field will be used to improve the
design of the new Cincinnati Reds ballpark that is to open in 2003.
An architect presented a $2.8 million redesign of the Great
American Ball Park to county commissioners Monday. The county will
own the $330 million ballpark, which will replace the 30-year-old
Cinergy Field stadium.
