Historically, electronic peripherals have received varying degrees of press based on the whim of the era. For example, while home systems and car stereos attract a great deal of attention, portable televisions and minidisc players have fallen by the wayside. In the world of digital audio this same trend holds true. Consumers are overly excited about the newest, smallest, and coolest MP3 players. One might consider though that this excitement is not necessarily based on style but rather on the fact that they play MP3s of our favorite bands. And what's more, they play them at an exceptionally high quality. The great irony here is that the sound quality of an MP3 player can be grossly misrepresented if you have shoddy headphones. Deny yourself digital audio no longer! Check out this ZDNet Music roundup of the best headphones and make an informed decision on your next purchase. If you expect to enjoy digital audio, you had better have the headgear to back up that fancy portable.
