Sparky: "Todd and Nancy may have had the best scores in mini-golf, but I'm going to give Gino and Brian something to squeal about when we go back to the office and fire up Marathon."

"I thought the play was good, but the partial nudity seemed not to excite Robert. I guess he was expecting female partial nudity."

October 3 Dinner Up & Down Club San Francisco Paige Manzo Women's Wire Big Shot This trendy SOMA club (dancing upstairs) has velvet drapes and loud jazz to accompany the very hip menu. Excellent kitchen. "Dave, we've got to stop meeting like this. Every time I eat with you I get more vegetarian."

October 5 Dinner Betelnut San Francisco Heli Koski Stanford University PhD Student A new hip Sino-San-Francisco joint with an attitude and a serious wait. The dim-sum is excellent, but stay away if you're a vegetarian. "This is my first time in San Francisco. It's cold! Not cold like Finland, but colder than I expected. Do you remember where you left the car?"

October 7 Lunch The Japanese Place on 2nd between Mission and Howard San Francisco Bruce Falck and Simon Smith Phoenix Pop Productions Web Site Designers Fast sweet and sticky rice and noodles. Hot soup if you're cold. Lunch only. "We've been overwhelmed with the amount of work coming in. We've already had a few offers for our company. I guess we must be doing something right."

October 11 Lunch Ecco South Park, San Francisco Amy Goodloe Lesbian.org Writer, Researcher, Community-maker A hot lunch spot for the wanna-be multimedia producer set. Mushrooms in everything. "I have so many offers to create more online communities, I don't know which one to choose!"

October 14 Dinner Some obscure restaurant Tokyo Yoshi Asai and friends Plan-Net Labs An awesome place. I could never find it again in my life. "Soon, Siegel-san, we will find out how well you like Karaoke-bar singing!"

October 16 Dinner An almost empty restaurant Sapporo Jonathan Nelson and our Japanese Hosts Organic Online An almost empty restaurant. "You know, Dave, we'll never really get to know our hosts if we don't go out and do as they do after dinner. And that means Karaoke."

October 18 Dinner A restaurant in the Rappongi district Jonathan and the Japanese gang The restaurants here are small and the sake comes hot and cold. We went for karaoke afterwards. Jonathan and Yoshi: "Country Road..." Me: "Acquarius!"

"Okay, when we get to Union Square, don't pay attention to me. Everyone will be watching the angel. If we're caught, we all go our separate ways. Got it?"

October 28 Dinner No Name Restaurant (2223 Market St) San Francisco Verso staff Verso Excellent nouvelle-chic. A place to be seen and to eat very well. I had their token vegetarian dish and it was awesome. "Happy Birthday Dear Gino... Happy Birthday To You!!!!"

October 30 Lunch One Market San Francisco Sanjay Sakuja Digital Prepress International A very popular banker's lunch place. Deals being made over poached salmon. They screwed up and put cheese in my pasta. "I think we have an opportunity to create something interesting on the Web together."

October 31 Dinner Towns End San Francisco Betsey Vobach Independent Writer This is one of my favorite South Beach restaurants. They have their own bakery, and the raviolis are unbelievable. "Dave, I'm so excited about our new book project!"

November 4 Dinner Julie's Supper Club San Francisco Cathy Clarke and Lee Swearingen DXM Shockwave producers This retro-chic lounge-lover's paradise in SOMA has an imaginative menu and a stylish staff. The kitchen almost manages to pull most of it off. "We shipped our book to the printers! The only problem left is that we have to crank out the PC version in four days!"

November 7 Dinner Eleven San Francisco Company party with guest of honor: Yumie Sonoda Verso This club-goer's "Ricky and Lucy"-style bistro serves imaginative menus for parties smaller than 12. Go there for the upbeat atmosphere and the loud live music that prevents conversation over dinner. "Happy Birthday Yumie!"

November 8 Dinner Zoe New York Michelle Miller Empanada Queen of SoHo Zoe is still one of the best places to have lunch in New York (you can't go to Dean and DeLuca every day). Dinner isn't bad, especially the green mashed potatoes with the basil ground in.

November 9 Lunch A soba noodle shop San Francisco Stacy Rosenblatt Lehman Brothers Account Executive This fancy noodle place serves a lot of fresh, bland, buckwheat in a lovely zen-like atmosphere. I forget the name, though. "Dave, I'm one of your best friends, and I have to pay $40 for your book?"

November 9 Dinner An Indian restaurant on East 6th St New York Rebecca Shulman tango dancer/teacher All the restaurants on east 6th are great. We found enlightened food in an upscale one that didn't have two yogis playing weird instruments in the window. "Buenos Aires is really wild. I have so many stories to tell you. You know, I haven't had a watch in years. I think I'd like one."

November 10 Brunch Sarabeth's Donna Berg Twist Productions Fashion industry consultant Possibly one of the best brunch spots in New York, they could be more accommodating of vegans. The combination four-flower juice is to die for. "I love Chanel. I don't wear it head-to-toe mind you, well, sometimes I do, but I did just get a pair of fabulous Prada shoes that are really uncomfortable for walking. I never wear socks -- they're too practical."

November 10 Dinner Man Ray Rebecca Shulman tango dancer/teacher This Chelsea bistro has a lot to offer. The atmosphere is thoroughly modern and the food is really delicious. "Thank you for the watch!"

November 11 Lunch A nice restaurant in New Haven, CT Fud Benson Stone cutter It was great to see Fud again, the guy who cut the inscriptions in the Kennedy Memorial and is now working on the Roosevelt Memorial. "Dave, you're not still drawing letters, are you? Oh, I see you are!"

November 11 Dinner A Thai restaurant in New Haven, CT Chip Benson Yale Dean, School of Art Chip is an old friend, a man who understands more about half-tone printing than possibly anyone alive and now bringing Yale's art school into the 21st Century. "Dave, your talk today was fabulous. But I think we really ought to talk about the future of the human species, because I think it's going to be great and you don't."

November 12 Dinner A fancy Italian restaurant near Union Square NY Josh Baran Tommy Boy Records, Upaya Music Label Chief Honcho The food wasn't great, but the company was. "We're going to do event-based records. Very different stuff. Very exciting. Wait until you see our first release!"

November 16 Dinner Mangiafuoco SF Heli Koski Standford Graduate student This intimate wonderful Italian in the Mission is a real find. Highly recommended! "I like the rain, normally. Not this much rain, but a little less."

The food and service are excellent. "Trying to get companies like Microsoft and Netscape to agree on anything is definitely a challenge. Knowing millions of dollars are at stake freaks me out a little, but it keeps things from getting bogged down in pure academics."

"With Surftalk, you just tell your computer where you want to go. Just say 'Go highfive' and you're there. No hands required!"

Next year we'll have to go to a bigger restaurant because they won't be able to get us all in here."
